Total average is the average of all valid values:

discard = 2
array 0 = 800,1200,2100,4100,1300,700 // discard 800,1200 at start and 1300,700 at end
array 1 = 1000,1500,4500,5000,5800,2000,1500 // discard 1000,1500 at start and 2000,1500 at end

total avg = (2100 + 4100 + 4500 + 5000 + 5800) / 5

That seems an error in your code, not a kata issue. I've just solved and didn't found that error.
